Planning Game

Deutsche Version

The planning game is used upon two occasions: during release planning and during iteration planning.

The primary goal during the planning game is to bring in line the customer requirements or the tasks scheduled for an iteration with the available programming capacity.

First, the effort for implementing user stories and tasks is estimated. If the required effort is higher than the avaible capacity, it is necessary to discuss with the customer this situation. It is the customers responsibility to decide which of the user stories and tasks should be deferred to the next iteration. If on the other hand, free capacity is available additional user stories or tasks can be added to the current iteration.

Tips

  • In some companies the term "planning game" is not political correct. Then you may want to choose a different term such as "planning meeting" or "planning workshop".
